Developing Characters

So, you want to develop character personality?
I'm currently working on some writing and it's character-based. Setting scenes is one thing, descriptive language seems to be second nature, but developing characters is much more complex. I found this great resource  that I want to share here, not just to share it, but so I can remember where it is...

4 years later...

Seriously, it's 4 years later. I've decided to revisit this blog because I want to keep the adventure stories coming. Also, after re-reading and cutting and pasting the old stuff into a new format which will become a printed zine, I realise that so many things have changed. I regret not keeping up with the blog for the past 4 years, but oh well... more soon... so much...

Support Local Business

Ok so you have a fantastic idea but no money. Have you heard that there are people, all around the world who want to help you and have the spare cash to make your dreams come true? Crowd-funding is a way to make your ideas come to life. Ok so it helps if your idea is well thought-out, planned and a business plan also helps but once you have an idea, all this other stuff is relatively easy as long as you stay motivated and are not afraid to ask for help.

Kylie Gusset is one of my best mates, since those heady days at zine fairs, to craft excursions and blogging adventures. She is a small business-woman who has a grand vision, but it is well-planned, researched and beautifully considered. It has everything: sustainability, animal love and job creation. She wants to process a tonne of wool for knitting and felting. A donation from as little as a dollar will help and more money will give you rewards, like magazines and wool. Check out her project here at Pozible.

Always, always support small business whenever you can. Otherwise we will be over-run with generic chainstores and limited choices.

R.I.P. The Tote

Melbourne's new sky high licensing fees have forced the closure of the beloved Tote Hotel. No more sticky carpets. No more happy hour that's 3 hours long, no more playing pool in cramped conditions, no more watching amazing bands from Melbourne and the rest of the world play in the band room. It was one of those places where you could go by yourself and end up having a chat with a mate, old or new. I don't know where we are going to go now and I am scared. Sign a petition to keep live music in Melbourne, do it now and tell your friends. Thanks x

Ace Website

The Design Cubicle is a great resource for graphic designers who need inspiration. Brian Hoff generously shares his tips, secrets and stunning design work in a easy to navigate page. Topics include advice on how to establish client needs and common P-Shop mistakes such as OVERUSE OF FILTERS!! I especially enjoyed his article and sample of vintage style poster design.

Excellent tip for print designers to remember: C 90 M 60 Y 30 K 100 = true black.
